SEE WHAT THEY SAY,
AS THEY SAY IT

Live Translate puts the words on screen as they are spoken, translated into your language. Over any video, call or screen share on Windows. On your phone, with the camera on the person talking and the translation under them.

Two ways to use it

At the desk, and in your pocket

One pipeline, two screens. The desktop app hears what the computer plays; the phone hears the room.

Windows

The band over the video

A see-through band floats over the video, the call or the screen share. You see the person talking behind it; under them, the words as they are being said and each finished sentence translated.

  • Hears the computer's own audio, the microphone, or both
  • Readouts on the band: mic status, languages, the voice bar, the engines
  • Clicks go through to the video; hover for the controls; Ctrl+Shift+T hides it
  • SPEAK reads each translated sentence aloud in a Windows voice
  • A console window with the setup, the keys and the session log

The camera on the person talking

Open it on your phone, add it to the home screen, tap the microphone. The camera shows who you are talking to; the subtitles appear under them, translated.

  • The phone's own speech recognition, free, no key; or Deepgram with a key
  • On screen: languages, mic status, the voice bar, the ears, the words, the licence
  • SWAP flips the languages for a two-way conversation
  • SPEAK says the translation out loud for the other person
  • Keys and settings stay in your phone's browser

How it works

Three steps, then just listen

1

Paste your keys

A Deepgram key for the ears (the phone's own ears need none). A DeepL key or an AI key for the words. Free tiers exist for all of them. The keys stay on your device.

2

Choose the languages

What they speak (or Auto: detected as they talk, among ten languages) and the language you want to read. 36 languages in all.

3

Press START

Play the video, join the call, or let them talk. The words show as they are said; each finished sentence lands translated a moment later, and can be spoken aloud.

What you see

The words, and everything round them

Over the picture

The band sits over the video or the call; the phone shows the camera. The person talking stays in view, the words come under them.

Live, then final

The words appear as they are spoken, in the original. Each finished sentence is translated and replaces it. Nothing is ever a blank line.

Mic status and voice bar

A readout says whether it is listening, reconnecting or stopped, and a bar lit by the real audio level shows it hears.

Languages in view

The language pair is always on screen. Change it on the band or the phone, or swap the two for a conversation.

Spoken aloud

Turn on SPEAK and each translated sentence is read out in the device's own voice, so the other person hears you in their language.

Your keys, your data

Audio goes to the speech engine you chose and sentences to the translator you chose, with your own keys. Nothing is kept anywhere.

Bring your own keys

You pay the providers, we never see a key

Live Translate is a client. It talks to the services below with keys you paste once. Each has a free tier that covers a lot of listening.

KeyForWhere
DeepgramThe ears on Windows; on the phone when you prefer it to the phone's own recognition. Streams the words as they are said and detects the language.console.deepgram.com (a free credit comes with a new account)

Claude, OpenAI, Gemini, Groq, DeepSeekThe words through an AI model, when you have no DeepL key or the language is not DeepL's.Each provider's console (links inside the app)

Questions

Before you start

Does it work with Teams, Zoom, YouTube, a film?

On Windows it hears whatever the computer plays, so any of them. Choose The computer's audio as the source, press START, and the band shows the words over the window you are watching.

Can it hear the person in front of me?

On the phone, that is what it is for: the camera shows them, the microphone hears them. On Windows, choose The microphone as the source.

How far behind is it?

The words appear within a moment of being spoken. A sentence is translated as soon as it is finished; with DeepL or a small AI model that is usually well under two seconds. The band shows the running figure.

Which languages?

36 languages can be the subtitles. The streaming ears detect ten as they are spoken (English, Spanish, French, German, Hindi, Russian, Portuguese, Japanese, Italian, Dutch) and hear 35 when you choose one; the phone's own ears hear all 36 in the language you choose.

What is stored?

Your keys and settings, on your device. Audio goes to the speech engine and sentences to the translator you chose, with your keys, and that is all. Djinja-C has no server in the loop and sees nothing.
